Northwest Parents for Excellent Schools and its executive board is pleased to announce the appointment of Brooke White as the new executive director.

"Brooke has been a strong and respected leader in business and the community in Northwest Denver for a number of years. We are thrilled at the opportunity to tap her talents and energy as the new executive director of Northwest Parents for Excellent Schools. We're confident she brings the vision and leadership we need to guide the next phase of public school reform needed in our community," says Janel Highfill, the chair of the executive board.

When asked about her appointment, Brooke had this to say: "Being a parent and active member of this wonderful community, I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to lead such an ambitious group. Northwest Parents for Excellent Schools has fought passionately to reform our North Denver schools. I will work hard to see the vision of Northwest Parents comes to fruition, and that our children, from preschool to high school are afforded a stellar education."

Northwest Parents for Excellent Schools (NWPES), a project of Colorado Non-profit Development Center, was formed in 2002 when the demand for enrollment at Academia Anna Marie Sandoval was so high that it could not accommodate the wait list. It was clear then that our need for quality education was not being met in Northwest Denver. A group of parents came together to develop a plan to create change in our poorly performing schools. Since this first meeting, the outcome has been tremendous. NWPES has played a vital role in changes at Valdez, Brown, and recently Lake Middle School. NWPES is a vocal advocate for excellence in education and one of its main goals is to build a diverse and representative coalition of parents who are interested in the same.
